EAST GRAND

In this bustling intersection near the spillway at White Rock Lake, there sits an existing building that we are in the process of transforming into a 1950s style diner, where we will showcase the era’s retro flare adding our own modern twist. One of the bonuses of his project is that this property has an enormous outdoor space adjacent to the Santa Fe Trail here in Dallas, so the restaurant will flow out into the green space. This will be a community gathering place for outdoor events - movies, concerts, talks, and more.

One of the challenges that excited us about this project was deciding how to make a big open field into a space or spaces where people can hang out comfortably. We looked at the large open space and divided it into outdoor rooms as you would a house - dining room, living room, etc., with thoughtfully placed pavilions integrated into the landscaping. We took the outdoor courtyard and converted it into an architectural program, which was a fun exercise.
