We live, work and play in Elmwood, so this renovation was very near and dear to our hearts. We had the idea to use a window as the kitchen backsplash as a way of bringing the outside in. Fun fact - we used reclaimed windows for the kitchen backsplash and the dining room that we found at an estate sale! We love giving things a second life.
Exposing and painting the original rafters that support the roof has given this space so much room to breathe, and finding creative ways to integrate the bones of a house into the design is such a fun challenge.
We love the accent floating shelves, and they were a labor of love between the millwork, steel and design team and we could not be happier with how they turned out. With open shelves, some are concerned about lack of storage, but our concern is creating too much space to hide the things we don’t actually love.
This project was forced to start as a result of a plumbing problem that destroyed the floors and more! Due to the surprise nature of this renovation, the design team had to get creative with the design and materials to work within the client’s budget.
